Claremont Baha’i Community to Host First-Ever Juneteenth Celebration

  • by

The Claremont Baha’i community is thrilled to announce its inaugural Juneteenth celebration, set to take place on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Blaisdell Park (440 S. College Avenue). This historic event marks the first time the Claremont Baha’i community is hosting a Juneteenth celebration, hoping to establish it as an annual tradition with numerous co-sponsors in the future.

Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, is a day of reflection, celebration, and community unity. This year’s celebration promises a rich program filled with vibrant activities and meaningful engagement, including delicious food, dynamic drumming performances, and a keynote address by Dr. Derik Smith, Professor of African American Literature at Claremont McKenna College.

Dr. Derik Smith is a highly respected scholar with expertise in African American literature, history, and culture. His keynote address will provide attendees with valuable insights into the significance of Juneteenth and its enduring impact on American society.

“We are honored to bring the community together to celebrate Juneteenth and to foster an environment of learning, reflection, and joy,” said a spokesperson for the Claremont Baha’i community. “Our goal is to create an inclusive event that honors the history and significance of Juneteenth while promoting unity and understanding among all people.”
